Day 1 Fly to San Francisco/Santa Rosa
Early this morning we meet and depart Denver for our non-stop flight to San Francisco where will begin our adventure. Before driving to Sonoma, we make a Stop at the famous Fisherman’s Wharf for lunch and exploring on our own. Then drive over the world famous Golden Gate Bridge en-route to our hotel in Santa Rosa in the heart of the Sonoma Wine Country. Arrive at our hilltop resort and unpack once for 5 nights. Time to relax before our included Get Acquainted Dinner at our hotel.
FEATURED 1ST CLASS HOTEL: Santa Rosa (5) – Hilton Sonoma Wine Country Resort (3+ Diamond) Located on a scenic hilltop overlooking the Sonoma Wine Valley, our first class, full service 250 room hotel resort includes a restaurant with patio dining, lounge, outdoor swimming pool, and beautifully landscaped grounds. The rooms are huge, measuring 375 square feet in size, a third larger than most hotel rooms. The hotel looks brand new, having just undergone a multi-million dollar renovation in 2015. What a great home for our 5 night stay!
DAY 2: Sonoma Wineries / Olive Oil Factory (B,D)
Drive through the scenic Valley of the Moon for a morning winery tour and tasting at the Ledson Winery. Then it’s on to historic Sonoma for free time to explore the Mission, Spanish Barracks, & the Sonoma Jack cheese shop and also to enjoy lunch on our own here. This afternoon, visit our second local winery, the Benzinger Winery, for a special tour & tasting. And last we will stop at the Olive Oil Factory, where you can taste some exotic flavored olive oils. Return to our hotel and relax before an included dinner at a fine local restaurant.
DAY 3: Coastal Drive / Redwoods / Champagne Winery / Burbank Gardens (B,L)
Drive along the Pacific coast seeing quaint Bodega Bay (location for Alfred Hitchcock's film "The Birds"). Continue on Highway #1 along the scenic coastline, then inland following the Russian River to the giant Sequoia trees. Stop at famous Korbel Winery for a delightful tour on making premium champagne. Enjoy a tasting of their sparkling wines before sitting down to an included lunch here. Next, we stop at Armstrong Redwood’s State Park and enjoy a walking tour through the giant redwood forest. Some trees are over 200 feet high and 25 feet around. Continue on to visit the lovely Luther Burbank Home & Gardens in Santa Rosa. Burbank was a world famous horticulturalist and gardener and his quaint home is a joy to tour. Return to our hotel. Dinner tonight is on our own, but consider joining us for an optional meal at nearby Johnny Garlic’s California Grill, owned by celebrity TV chef and local resident, Guy Fieri.
DAY 4 – Napa Wine Train / Culinary Experience (B, L)
Today we travel to the world famous Napa Valley Wine Country. Begin by boarding the Napa Valley Wine Train for a leisurely 3-hour journey in meticulously restored vintage railcars traveling through beautiful vineyards and quaint towns. Onboard enjoy a three course gourmet lunch with wine included. Later visit a nearby culinary school for a unique food and wine pairing demonstration. Return to our hotel for a free evening or join us for an optional buffet dinner at the upscale Grafton Casino.
Morning drive along Highway #101 through the Russian River Wine Valley to tour a famous premium brand winery owned by the Hollywood director, Francis Ford Coppola. Stop in the quaint, historic town of Healdsburg for shopping & lunch on our own. Stop at the Kendall-Jackson Wine Center, for another special wine tasting. Next it’s off to Santa Rosa to tour the Charles Schultz Museum, dedicated to the beloved “Peanuts” cartoonist. Return to our hotel and relax prior to our Farewell Dinner at another local restaurant.
After breakfast we check out of our hotel and depart for our tour of the elegant FILOLI Mansion & Gardens. FILOLI stands for "Fight, Love, & Live" and was the home of multi–millionaire gold baron William Bourne. You will recognize this elaborate mansion from the 1980’s TV series “Dynasty”. Then we are off to the airport for our return flight home.
